A new 'No Fob' question

My wife and I are the original owners a 2005 convertible, manual transmission, about 50,000 miles, with both original key fobs. Recently, we have started with intermittent 'no fob' messages, with 'no fob' much more frequent than not. I have read other threads on the forum but I'm confused about next steps. I've replaced the fob batteries but that has not corrected the problem. The car starts with the fob in the glove box slot but when I remove it to close the glove box, when I turn off the engine I get a no fob message. The tire pressure monitors are working. One factor that might be contributory is that I had an after-market radio installed about 2 weeks ago and it seems that problems started about a week later.

It's time for an oil change and I'd like to get this fixed. What other steps could I take (I can do minor repairs but I won't take apart a dashboard) or what should I ask/tell the mechanic when the car goes into the shop? Thanks to all.
