Will the car keep running if the fob is away from it?

I love my 2013 Crystal red Grand Sport 60 anniversary Corvette! I had a C5 before this, and it had a key to operate it. This is the first car I've had that used a keyless system, have the fob in your pocket, hit start and it goes. Lets say someone carjacks you and takes off with the car and the fob is in my pocket. Will the car stop running? I realllly pray that this will never happen, but I just wonder how this keyless thing works. Thanks for any feedback!
