At a Corvette event on Saturday and spotted this. I talked to the owner for awhile. He's the original owner , this is one of three, the other two are in a museum.
He said the purchase from GM had to be in total secrecy and had to sign a waiver agreeing he could never disclose the details of the purchase.
He was able to tell me that the transaction took place the night after the race about 60 miles away on dark stretch of highway and was taken on some back roads where there were massive hangars containing a single model of every car in every configuration GM ever made - he was able to see Camaros and Cadillacs stored eight cars high on racks. Gorgeous Vette. It is all original including the roof mount light bar.
He also told me the celebrity that drove it the day of the race was Lance Armstrong and that they let him drive it on the track alone for a few dozen laps. He said he had it up to 190 with his terrified dad riding shot gun.
