Dry sump battery removal nightmare

Just thought I would make a post to save people the nightmare I dealt with. I have a grand sport where the battery is in the hatch of the car. Thought it would be a simple job taking it out and replacing it and boy was I wrong. The battery didn't have a strap on it. There was maybe half an inch of room to work with, so as soon as you stick your hands in there theres no room to pull it out. After spending about two hours cutting up my hands and cussing, I tried making my own strap. I ended up using a dog leash, I had to lift up one side of the battery and get the leash under the end of the battery. Shimmied it as much as I could to try and get the leash in the center of the battery. The battery will come out pretty much only if you pull it perfectly straight up, even then it was a tight squeeze. I made sure the new battery had a handle on it. Talk about a **** poor design, whatever engineer came up with that shouldn't be working around cars. Especially considering a battery is one of the most common maintenance items. I thought it was user error until I looked online and saw most people ran into this same problem, some even cut up their compartment to get it out which I did start to consider around hour two lol. Hope this helps someone.
