While leaving a cruise-in on Saturday night, I felt a definite uncontrolled pulling right, and then left and the car was difficult to keep straight. I pulled over, and thought that I might have a loose wheel. I called my son and he brought a torque wrench, and every lug nut was tight to spec. I had him follow me home (I drove very slowly), and while backing into my driveway, I looked out the side mirror and was shocked to see the left rear tire "protruding out" from the wheel well. I got the car into the garage, and pulled the left rear tire and was horrified to see no front upper control arm bolt. (see pic) Thank God it happened when I wasn't on the freeway, otherwise it could have been catastrophic. I do believe we had an angel of mercy in the car with us! I had a heck of a time finding the correct bolt. but I did find it at ACE Hardware (hardened Grade 10 metric....Grade * SAE), and got everything back together. I did call the Chevy Stealership, and they had one for $33.99. What? Are you kidding? The bolt from ACE hardware was $5.49 + tax. I checked the opposite side and sure enough, the front bolt was tight but not to 48 ft
Drivers side wheel and tire protruding out from the wheel well
What? A missing upper control arm bolt causing the problem!!
lbs as per spec. So beware and check your car, as I wouldn't want anything to happen to anyone because of this type of problem!
