Transmission/gearbox fault - limp home mode - no reverse

Last night, while parking (daily use) my car refused to go into reverse, then lit up with a transmission fault, limphome engaged, take to McLaren service centre. Could get (D)rive, (N)eutral but no (R)everse. Battery full. Car used daily. Not really thrashed at all although decent amount of mileage (33k), servicing scheduled adhered to rigidly.

As usual, let is sleep (overnight) came back this morning, same thing. Pushed the car back and went for a drive round the block to see if I needed...
